Reuse, Renovate. Repurpose
Ideas about using products already in your home office in new and different ways.
My father was a WWII vet and definitely ahead of his time. I remember traveling across the state with snacks in our old '56 Buick. It was 1962 and our car was full of food to keep us occupied on the long trip. Definitely before McDonald's allowed us to just buy our snacks. As we opened the packages of sugar-laden twinkies, he firmly admonished, “Don't throw the trash outside. No littering the highway!” We had been hearing that all our lives – my brother and I. He was highly aware of the environment and urged us daily to preserve it.
He expressed it by never buying a new car – always buying a used one instead. We would even spend time at the dump every week looking for things that were still usable. That was back in the day when you could pick up discarded stuff there. We didn't have air conditioning – too much energy expended. He built a ton of stuff at our house – but everything was built with hand tools. He could do amazing things with a hammer, hand saw and hand drill. In other words, he was an environmentalist before it was cool to be one.
Needless to say, this influenced me throughout my life. It continues to influence me today. So, why do I even tell you this? Just to let you know about my philosophy on home offices. In creating a dream office, I first focus on taking things that have already been used and finding a way to re-use them, re-purpose them and sometimes renovate them. Why? Because I think we need to preserve our environment and not use more resources than we have to. If we all have this focus, then the world will be here for future generations.
Take a look around for ideas on how to recyle, repurpose and renovate materials for your home office.
